No. Hemp yields about 3.9 tonnes/acre compared with about 3 tonnes per acre for corn. As a rule of thumb, approximately 40% of the mass of any crop can be converted into a fuel, giving 1.6 tonnes per acre or about 11.7 BOE (Barrels Oil Equivalent) per acre. At that rate the US would need to plant 660 million acres of hemp on its 300 million acres of cropland to feed its SUV's. Less than 1/2 of the SUV's would be fed and none of the people.

If it did, it would be producing energy on a grand economic scale, therefore, it doesn't work at this time.

it can but sugar cane would be far better
although i have made beer from marijuana

but hemp has other beneficial properties, such as putting nitrogen into the soil, breaking up compacted soil .making building material ,absorbing carbon

medicinal values , oil ,

and it is the best organic fiber around ,
that used to make jeans ,sails ropes ,bags

that is the big problem
and this is why it will never be legal

The day that synthetic fiber hit the market ,hemp became Public enemy number one
.
and countless appeals which included scientific studies ,to all the presidents ,have doggedly been ignored .

These are the same families that own the petroleum business.they will not tolerate a superior competitor to synthetics.

These same people used to be the owners of the biggest hemp plantations in Mexico and the USA.

this is hemp not cannabis , and has no drug value ,

more or less the same answer but including other peoples input.
