I know this is stupid , but I can’t think of anything besides the animals eating it .

Well yes the animals could eat it and some animals may not bet properly or swallow it. But if someone just decides to empty some oil into a lake or some other chemical that you may not even realize what it could do, The fish could suffocate from lake of oxygen in the water and remember that other mammals drink from this water so if something was poisoning the water it could poison and kill a lot of mammals that rely on the pond for a water source. Reptiles that lay eggs in or close to the water could also get sick, and if the eggs are effected the eggs may not hatch. The pond might eventually cover with scum (the Green slimy stuff you sometimes see on the surface of the water) and that kills the fish. A polluted pond could severely damage the surrounding ecosystem just because you didnt want to throw away your wrappers.

Yeah, dolphins, whales, fish, anything wil eat it. It also can get caught around an animal somehow and either strangle it to death, or keep it held in one place long enough to starve it, or they may waste all their energy on trying to get out and eventually kill themselves. Yeah, its scary right? NEVER LITTER lol i feel very strongly about the enviorment. Haha Hope that helped
Animals eating the litter is one of the biggest problems caused by litter in a ponds or wetland. This is in addition to the litter being unsightly. The litter does not even have to be directly thrown into the pond. Many road storm drains go directly to wetlands brooks rivers etc, so litter along roads is washed into the ponds.
As garbage breaks down animal’s eat plastic etc etc but they can’t digest it and it causes problems. Also if runoff gets into ponds that kills the animals. Trash can clog up the water. An animal can get it’s head stuck in a piece of trash and eventually suffocate. Animals will leave a pond. Plants can be easily damaged and when the plants die erosion occurs. there’s probably more
Sometimes litter adds a habitat for very small fish, or a base for sea plants to grow on, kind of like when they sink old ships at sea to form coral reefs.
