Why might oil companies support hydrogen as an alternative fuel?

A: Hydrogen has no COGS
B: Hydrogen requires a refueling infrastructure
C: Hydrogen is so expensive that consumers wont want it

  1. Hydrogen is made from oil and gas.

  2. cause for make hydrogen is more polluting than a vehicle with intern combustion, so is better electric, an one thing, oil companies will fight for the oil till the end cause they are not interested in electric an hydrogen vehicles, for them busines an the politicans the same

  3. hydrogen has the highest COGS
    H2 has no infastructure
H2 is so expensive that NASA doesn’t want to buy it.

  4. Take a look at the Sandia Labs CR5 project. That started with the objective of finding a more efficient way of producing hydrogen from water. The conclusion was that the technology could also produce CO from CO2 and that together with the hydrogen produced could synthesize any hydrocarbon fuel they desired from methanol to gasoline and diesel.

There’s really no point in going to hydrogen when the same concept of chemically storing energy produced from alternative sources like solar and wind would be better served by using the energy to synthesize gasoline and diesel thereby using existing refueling infrastructure and using existing vehicles.

The whole hydrogen thing is just a scam to sell more new cars and construct a new infrastructure, both of which would be a boost to the economy but would present a terrible toll on the environment due to the carbon footprint of making the new cars and the new infrastructure. Still, people will buy into the concept and will foolishly believe they are helping the environment by doing so when in fact they may be contributing the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Oil companies will support whatever makes them the most money. They can make money off hydrogen just as easily as they can from gasoline and they might even get the taxpayer to pay for the infrastructure with which to take your money with.
