Why is this category called Global Warming in Yahoo in America, but Climate Change in Australia and elsewhere?

Anyone ever accidentally come across the australia yahoo page looking for global warming category? Threw me for a loop at first – wonder why they do that? No wonder folks are confused and saying things like "haven’t you heard, it’s not called global warming anymore, it is called climate change now" well maybe from things like this doesn’t help with that much

  1. the term "global warming" is more predomintate in wildly sensationalized american media, and tends to imply that changes in the global climate are anthropologically driven, and not something that has been happening for millions of years.

"Climate Change" states simply that the climate is changing and leaves "breathing room" for all oppinions.

In short, Dummies, Hippies, Ignorant Rednecks, and know-it-all college punks call it global warming, and everyone who ISN"T american calls it climate change

  2. It’s the same thing. Climate change is the older, more traditional term. I think Americans just flock to slogans. The Bush adminstration tried to steer the term to climate change, because their consultant counselled that "Global Warming" was too scary in a famous 2003 memo.

Me, I still want to refer to the "Greenhouse Effect", as scientifically as bad as that term is. It’s just the term I learned when I was first introduced to the effect in college in the 1970s.

  3. cuz america is retarded as. word

  4. Because Climate change is a more nuanced topic. Americans in general are too stupid to understand the subtlety. Just look at the denier drivel that shows up here

  5. just like in america money is called money and in the uk money is called pound

  6. Er, no. In the UK money is called money, the currency is the pound. Please tell me this was a joke response?

Anyway, they are both useful terms. Global warming refers tp the observed gradual increase in temperature over the last few decade. Climate change deals with this and all associated changes such as precipitation patterns.

  7. Because Yahoo is a cooperate c***sucker, that favours the oil industry and uses outdated terminology to keep the america public in the dark.

this a terribly run site where deniers are using multiple IDs and asking each other pre set up questions, I would ask of Yahoo who watches the watchers?

How many Deniers does it take to screw in a CFL light bulb?

None. They are all afraid that it is a global leftist conspiracy to brainwash them with electromagnetic radiation. That’s way they are all in the dark.

  8. I am on the Australian site so have only ever seen it as climate change, but the U.S. version is linked and questions from there appear in ours and vise-versa.
It is just a name it has no effect on the science, although some deniers think if they play up some fictional name change, it will mean something, personally I think such childish behavior is funny.

    beinghere2002:
"How many Deniers does it take to screw in a CFL light bulb"
    Sorry you are incorrect
3 will deny the CFL works
3 to deny there is a CFL at all
3 (of course) will say it’s now called a energy saving light
2 to say that light can only come from natural sources (the Sun)
2 to try and link the CFL to the Holocaust
and 1 or 2 saying that the CFL will cause the end of the world in 2012
1 will try and link the CFL to a communist plot

And at the end of the day there will only ever have been 3 deniers in the room, and they will still be in the dark.

  9. its obviously related to the fact that global warming is not occurring but the weather does change so by calling it climate change we can have an ice age and not have to change the terminology..or even admit the science is wrong.climate gate has exposed the lies of the scientists pushing man-made global warming””’but the lie seems to live on.

  10. its the same thing tbqh, its just different terms of saying it! x

  11. Obviously, the Australians are far more advanced and have a better understanding of the subject.

As the Americans are a major contributer to climate change they like to confuse the issue.

  12. 2 ways of saying the climate on the planet is changing rapidly.

  13. Because the alarmunists changed the language because their "warming" prediction wasn’t panning out. So, in order to sow fear, they changed it to climate change, hoping that people would think that’s just as scary.

  14. It’s just the cultural language.

    In England it’s a Lorry, in the U.S. it’s a semi.
    In England, it’s a biscuit, in the U.S. it’s a cookie.

Why the difference? Cultures coin different words, so a website is going to want to stay true to what most people are accustomed to seeing.

Example: U.S. Yahoo news has as the headline: "LORRY FULL OF BISCUITS DUMPS CONTENTS ON MOTERWAY"

The general public in the U.S. would be like….. ehhhhhh? what?

You gotta stick to cultural norms.
