Why are more green glass bottles put into bottle banks (for recycling) than UK making them from scratch?

Why is the percentage of recycling GREEN glass bottles higher than producing them in the UK?
Out of clear, green, and brown bottles, green ones are most common. Why?

  1. Because the UK imports a lot of bottles.

And green because wine and beer usually come in green bottles, and lots of people drink.

  2. imports from other countries
