What is the best way to recycle About 2 and a half tons of cardboard?
I just got a shipment in from Costa Rica. I didn’t order it but it’s sitting on my loading dock now. I want to be environmently freindly but the problem is that all the boxes are filled with rotting avacados.
Do you think I can take all the boxes the the recycling center?
Gotta go with ink corporate’s suggestion. Much simpler and more logical. Either that or throw a huge fiesta, have your employees make pinatas out of the cardboard, make guacamole out of the avocados to serve at the bash … and make sure there’s plenty of tequilla on hand.
youd probably want to compost it rather than trying to recycle it – both the avocados and boxes will biodegrade together, and you dont want to have to take all the avocados out!
call a recycling place… some will come and pick it up, yes you can take them, and may also get paid for recycling
I would go to google maps and search "Local Area Recycling <zipcode> to find a recycling location near you. Once one is located, call them to ensure they will take it and then load up a pickup truck with the cardboard and make a trip.

Yes, if the boxes are not waxed you can recycle them at a recycling center. They will pay you about $40.00 a ton. The boxes are re-pulped and turned back into liner board which in turn is corrugated and made into new boxes. This process has been going on for over 80 years now.
Send them back to Costa Rica
Donate them to a food bank or homeless shelter, poor people will eat anything!
with that kind of a mess on your dock the cardboard may be to far gone to be usable, some areas have composting sites and that may be a better place to dump that rotted mess commercial composting sites can grind up even the cardboard and compost it into usable soil.Check out KINGS COUNTY in Nova Scotia they have such a site.
use the avocados in compost for gardening( return the nutrients to the earth) and take the boxes to the recycling center after you flatten them
I agree with Ronald. I worked at a recycling center here in Southern California, but the one I worked at paid way more than just $40.00/ton. It’s now $100-110 a ton. They might make a deduction because of the avocados on your weight, depending on how much they think the weight is avocados. Make sure you call them and tell them in advance because I remember being kind of annoyed when people would bring in cardboard that had stuff all over it or trash mixed into it.
