What harmful effects does a highway have on the environment?
When highways were put in a few years back… what did it do to the environment? How did it impact nature and their habitats?
I need to do a project on how a local highway affected the environment near where I live. All the influences, and negative effects.
Any suggestions or comments?
A highway breaks up habitat and mainly affects animals that need to move around. Anything from rabbits to deer to frogs and tortoises can all be affected.
Runoff from the highway carries some chemicals (mainly from dripping oil) into the soil next to the highway. Chemicals may also leach out of the pavement into the soil directly below the road, eventually ending up in ground water.
Noise from the highway would affect some species of birds but they will typically just stay far enough away from the road to hear each other when they need to communicate.
Um… it made polution to the air??? Um… some animals get sick by breathing in the poluted air???Um… we need trees for oxegen-well this one is dumb, but yea…
Car pollution is an every day problem that is confronting the environment because of the construction of the highway. Although we have grown to accept the smell of engine exhaust as a part of everyday life, our nation is experiencing an epidemic of illnesses made worse by air pollution.
In the northern regions of the globe roads can also be a major source of contamination of surrounding soils and water bodies as a consequence of spreading roads salt, and other materials for winter road maintenance.
Well, first of all, the concrete. When the sun reflects on the concrete, it harms the Earth. The thermal energy that is made by the sun heating the concrete opens up chemicals that are released in the air. Also, of course, cars that pollute the environment drive on it and also release chemical gases into the atmosphere. The chemical gas basically destroys the layers of the atmosphere that shield us from the sun’s harmful rays.
Hoo boy! You DO want to get your hands on the Environmental Impact Statement for that highway. Some overpaid professional has already done your work for you.
