It is a good idea to look at alternative fuels. But for now we still have fuel for planes for hundreds of years. We used to think crude oil was limited in quantity, but there is thought now that nature is still producing oil. Oil has no other use except to use it. So keep it up.
I have faith in the free market .. if there is a need it will be fulfilled. So don’t worry about it.

Nuclear would be a horrible solution….Think of the contamination in the event of a crash. And unfortunately, crashes can’t be completely eliminated.
I would think that any alternative fuel could be made to work for planes.

In my opinion I think every plane should have a small nuclear reactor for fuel. It would mean no carbon emissions.
wat do u think.

Fuel is fuel, Right? They’d just convert anything that ran on fossel fuels

You already can find alternatives BMW, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Saab, Volkswagen, etc.
About planes, maybe in 2007, or as latest 2008, will be hydrogen fuelled engines ready

You’re right, it will take a major technological breakthrough.
But, if we reduce our fossil fuel use where we can right now, we can handle our fossil fuel problems of needing to import oil, and global warming.
We don’t have to do absolutely everything, just what we can. Unfortunately there’s little sign we will do that. People would rather ignore the upcoming bad problems.

With the internet’s ability to communicate globally more effective than ever, is there a need to transport human beings who are doing nothing more than traveling for vacations and business anywhere on the face of the globe within hours? What is wrong with just boarding a train or transoceanic ship to get to your destination, like was common before the mid sixties. Ship and train travel is a much forgotten thing to the misfortunes of our generations. Slower travel was more human but trains and ships are now able to travel faster than their older cousins. When traveled but rail or sea we arrived refreshed and in good spirits as if we had been on a vacation before the vacation, not suffering from the jet lag or the desperate need of a shower and a clean set of clothes. When we traveled by planes and trains we met people, formed friendships and lived a relaxed healthier life with less stress.
Jet aircraft used for transporting people inject on average over three tons of fossil fuel exhaust into the upper levels of our troposphere and lower stratosphere every hour they fly. Even the piston airlines that carried passengers before the jet age were far better for the environment than the fossil fuel hungry jets we have today.
The bottom line is we need jet aircraft for defence and emergency relief around the globe, but the bulk to air transport is used to carry passengers and the world doesn’t need that sort of aggravation when there is a more human friendly and environmentally friendly way to travel.
