What is the point of community “green programs”…?

I find no use in the green bins they just waste time and money and smell alot.
In my opinion you are simply just letting them making money off you becuase they turn it into soil and you buy it back from them, i know it goes through all those curing processes and all that but honestly…
Don’t all the biodegradable items compost in a few weeks at a dump anyways? There’s many parasites that compost it…

Can anyone think of something that can change my opinion around?

There is this lady on Yahoo Answers that is against using ethenol as an alternative fuel because she says producing a maximum yield of corn, without allowing the fields to go fallow, will ruin the soil for other crops. Corn is naturally hard on soil as it is, so constant production of corn in one place will drain all of the naturally occurring nutrients in the soil. How true is this?
