About the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Are they really working for save whales?

I wonder they dirty the sea. They sometimes threw bottles of butyric acid for Japan whale ships. But some of bottles could fall into the sea and they should be poison for whales.
Does the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society want to really save whales ?
