What happens to our trash after we recycle it?
In my city we have a recycling center where you can drop off all your recycables mixed in. Technically it says "Plastic containers and Paper", but I throw in all kinds of things: paper, plasic packaging, cardboard, glass bottles, figuring that the should be able to separate it anyways.
I am curious, what happens with all these items when they are mixed in like this? How do they separate them? And do you think they toss away all the items other then "Plastic containers and paper"?

Out of clear, green, and brown bottles, green ones are most common. Why?
Where can you recycle glass/plastics? Is there any places that pay near Columbia, PA for such recyclables?
We are looking to recycle our plastic containers and our glass bottles and want a place to take them within 1 hour of Columbia, PA. We would prefer a place that pays for recycled goods to make up for the gas getting them there and to conserve on gas, but that’s not necessary. The closer the facility is to Columbia the better.

I have already bought environmentally friends AC units and other things for the home, I recycle newspapers, clear glass bottles and aluminum cans. Those things are recycled in my area.
As a home owner I tend to look at the price tag and also ways to save money. I even tend to buy degradable trans-bags to help the garbage in my area since the bags I have used will take 1,000 of years to degrade due to the plastic used.
I make sure the lights are off when I leave and I have the temperature at a setting I can handle. What else can I do to save money and the environment at the same time. Am I missing something?
We currently don’t have a recycling company to pick up anything but clear plastic at this time.

I know this sounds like a silly questions because most of the time you put your recycables in a recycle bin and leave it at your curb for the recycle truck. I used to do this. But now I live at an apartment complex that doesnt do recycling. So where can I bring my recycables to be recycled? Is there someplace to drop them off or do I need my complex to do it?
Also what can be recycles besides plastic bottles and glass bottles? If anything else can you recycle it the same way as everything else?
