Depends on many factors. Depending on where you live more or less of what you put in the recycling bin gets used. Steel and paper are the easiest to recycle. You can make money on that.
Glass and aluminum can also be practical to recycle. Plastics lose money to recycle. Better to burn them in co-gen plants.
They make stuff out of garbage and they pay you to send them your garbage, plus they pay for the mailing costs for you to mail them wrappers and chip bags and stuff. Its pretty cool

it is up to the recycler. supposedly everything that has a recycling code can be reused. i suspect lots is passed over, as plastic that is contaminated cannot be recycled. oil containers are a good example.

we stopped it going to landfill.
