How are you green as in eco-friendly?

Do you plan on going green if so when and how ?

My building doesn’t recycle so I am going to start a recycling bin outside my building and see what happens.

I read that those eco-friendly lightbulbs can cause cancer and there very hard to recycle is this true?

  1. I live in a city that provides recycle bins for metal, glass, paper, and plastic.

If the city finds you putting an excess of recycle products in the regular trash, you will be fined. So we are very conscious of what we throw out and where.

I keep driving to a minimum, I don’t overheat or overcool my house. I’m not big on cleaning chemicals or fertilizers for the lawn.

I recycle clothing and other usable items on Freecycle so they don’t hit the landfill.

We garden, so we are saving the "packaging" that the produce would normally come in from the store.

And I don’t overbuy anything, except things I know I will use this year – toothpaste, tissue, etc.

  2. I do recycle even tho it is not mandatory & why some areas it is & some it is not makes no sense to me. I’m glad to learn you are putting a bin out; hope it gets filled. I understand those bulbs have mercury so don’t drop them, but I don’t know about causing cancer.

  3. Well I am not a professional but i do know that if kids and adults help to go green then life would be better! Our parks, you will be able to enjoy them with out seeing trash on the ground! Well if everyone encourage other people to help make this earth cleaner and to stay clean, we will go green. It is up to the people of the universe to help decide when to take action for our earth! When this happens we will go green! Helping clean up on your road, a park or anywhere will help. You could plant trees, clean up a local area, recycle ( there are a lot of people who don’t recycle and that’s what makes our pile of trash huge) , and any other actions! I don’t know about the light bulbs but you can always put up a solar powered roof thing. We have light bulbs that don’t harm the earth ( the curly ones) and it helps ( I think)!

You are doing a nice thing! Starting a recycling bin is a great way to help out the earth! Encourage you friends and family! We have a whole lot of lives left in the future! We want our world to be bright and beautiful ( something we can all be proud at)! Nice job! Keep up the great work!

  4. The light bulbs DO have mercury and so do NOT drop them.
And NO they do NOT cause cancer!
Good job on making the recycling bin!
I hope it goes over BIG!

  5. I am in the process of going green, and I am encouraging my friends to do the same.

Here in Miami, we have curbside recycling pick-up. Try finding out if something exists in your city.

Congrats on starting the recycling bin!

Keep it up the good work!

  6. No. Many morons believe they can recycle, buy organic, and recycle a shopping bag. These hypocrites give green people a bad name.

You have to make it your religion. Sell your car, cut your power, and do not travel.

This will save the planet! Not recycling.

  7. What are you trying to gain?
are you trying to save the earth?
don’t you know that every chemical you use comes from the earth?
if tires, paper, and plastic all that stuff comes from the earth, what makes you think it harms it when we give it back?
Just thro it on the ground.

  8. I conserve water to go green. Shortage of fresh water is a growing problem worldwide. Fresh water reserve levels have dropped significantly in places like Southern california. Hence we’ll need to make a conscious effort to save water – our source of sustenance. Here are some ways to do it:
    * Install a low flow toilet and shower head
    * Reuse grey water from kitchen/bathroom to water you garden
    * Fix leaking faucets and sprinklers
    * Turn off faucets while brushing your teeth
    * Take shorter showers
    * Use a broom to sweep the drive way instead of a water hose
    * Use a bucket for car wash instead of a water hose

  9. First, Happy Earth Day! You proposed a great question to help raise awareness!

I have done two major things to go green over the past two years:
    1) I converted all my lawn power tools to cordless electrics. Pulling power from the grid creates more demand for electricity and in my area I use Entergy’s Geaux Green program to purchase my electricity which promotes renewable energy power plants in Louisiana.

The CO2 emissions from a typical gas lawn mower are greater than that of several cars made after 1990. Changing the way you take care of your lawn is a good way to go green.

    2) I write reviews and publish articles about green technologies to spread the news across the web.

For example, here are two reviews of the electric power tools I use in my yard:
