Does the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society go too far for their cause?

Calling themselves "eco-pirates?"

Not having the support of Greenpeace or other conservation groups?

Are their methods too dangerous for, or even detrimental to, their cause?

  1. I’m not necessarily supporting these guys, but I see where they’re coming from.

When you believe in something, you should fight for it.

How far do you and I go to advocate and fight for what we believe in? Perhaps the Sea Shepherds are insane for doing what they are doing, but I admire their compassion towards conserving the whale and ending the Japaneses illegal act.

On the flip side, I didn’t see it just for the Captain to risk two of his crew members by putting them on board the opposing side’s ship. That could have been a VERY dangerous situation, and I sincerely hope the Captain understands that.

  2. I think they are definitely dangerous. Sea Shepherds, ELF, and Earth First! are organizations that are absolutely insane. Through violence, name calling, and harming other people it is impossible to get a point across. These sorts of people just hate humankind, and their messages aren’t "Save the Earth!" or "Save the Whales!" or whatever they want you to think… it’s "Down with Government!" and "Die!"

Eco-terrorists give the environmental movement a bad name, like religious terrorists give Islam a bad name, or cults give Christianity a bad name.

  3. Their only cause is the captain’s quest for notoriety and fame. He isn’t going to prevent one whale from being killed but he might get some of his own crew killed or imprisoned. The whale research vessels are going to fill their quota with or without the sea shepherd. He ultimately causes sympathy for the whalers.

  4. There are radicals in any organization.
