do you think that alternative fuel by 2040 is achievable?

do you think that it is achievable that ALL passenger vehicles and light trucks use alternative fuel by 2040?

  1. Not on the scale that we use oil now.

Battery technology for electric vehicles is not developed enough for cars, let alone trucks and trains, although trains can run on grid derived electricity supplied via third rail.

Biofuels suffer from poor energy capture density. Oil and coal represent thousands of years of accumulated solar energy, locked away in their hydrocarbon bonds. Biofuels must capture the energy of the sun in real time, and therefore require a great deal of land. It is unlikely we could get more than 10 or 20% of our current world oil usage from biofuels by 2040 (if ever).

So yes, it is possible to run our cars on alternative fuels by 2040, just not at anywhere near the scale that we run them now. Embracing alternative fuel means that you also embrace radical conservation.

  2. ummm interesting question….. personally i think electricity will start to kick in

  3. I don’t think so. The powers that gain money on gas will make sure it’s still part of the process.

  4. why not 2015 or 2020?
    why so far away?

  5. There’s a lot of technologies right now which could be affordable for use about a decade from now. Sure, the fat old men will put up a fight about it.

Shooting 32 years from now, it can be predicted that we won’t need these… trucks due to better methods of transport. But that is for my generation to decide, if they want to party all weekend or get together and work on something before all the great scientists pass away.

  6. its possible in 2 years if we really try…we have the technology…we’re just not applying it…

  7. i see it happening but i wont be surprised if it doesn’t..There’s no excuses why there shouldn’t be

  8. I doubt it. If someone comes up with an alternative fuel that the major fuel companies will find as a risk, they will buy out their "product" and plans, thus making it non-existant.

Remember the guy who created the vehicle that ran on water? I think Exxon bought him out for millions. But its a risk. You never really know if the corporation will put a hit out on you or something. Anything to make money…

  9. at this time, we have a synthetic fuel, no fossil fuel needed ……..go figure……we will fight for blood before we do anything about it.

  10. On a small scale it is here today minus the infrastructure but as soon as tech for batteries gets here which I believe will be prior to 2020 yes we will be able to have alternate fuel on the scale we need.

  11. by then i would say yes, they all ready have it but don’t want to use it because the oil companies won’t allow it,for at least now,but eventuallythe goverment will make a change!
