Are hot water showers harmful to environment compared to a bucket of hot water?
The amount of water wasted in a shower is much higher than bathing using a bucket of water. Add to the energy required to heat that much water. I would think hot water showers are very harmful to environment. Bath with a bucket of hot water is much less wasteful.
Trust me….when it comes to showering, don’t worry about the environment! Be more concerned about those family, friends and co-workers who are close to you on a daily basis…..Take no shortcuts!!
If you want people to take GW seriously, don’t tell them that one way to "save the earth" is to disconnect their shower and wash out of a bucket. These ideas cause people to believe you really know little of what you are talking about. Soon there will come the backlash and even good things will be rejected.
The hot water temperature can vary depending on how much water is used. If you get up early in the morning and have a shower, it takes longer for the hot water to reach the shower head than it does in the evening, when many people in the building are washing up, showering or having a bath.

That being said, there is a way to use hot water without the use of buckets and without wasting energy. If you live in an area that gets a reasonable amount of sunshine, you can use plastic barrels to heat water by the sun. Many people do to keep their greenhouses warm during the winter months, and it can be modified for use as household hot water to supplement the hot water from your tank.
