Alternative Fuel Sources?

I am currently doing a science fair project and i was going to use alternative fuel sources on several different Remote/Controlled cars. I know of Hydrogen powered cars and how to make them, but i don’t know how to make a solar powered car or any other car like that. Also i have a 12 volt solar panel but dont know of anything to do with it got any suggestion?

  1. There are plenty of kits available for science projects for both hydrogen fuel cell cars and sola powered cars.

    Check http://www.abornazine.com

Look in the sections for fuel cells and also solar power.

  2. The small solar car has GOT to be easier to build than the hydrogen car. Anybody can connect a small electric motor to a solar panel but making a small engine to burn hydrogen, or even ethanol, to power a small car would be tough.

  3. A solar car could use the power directly from panel to motor, with just a control switch between. But it might be better to insert a voltage control and a battery into the circuit to allow for more performance thatn the 15 watt panel might put out.
Part of the demonstration is having the panel in the sunlight well before demonstration time or having the battery fully charged before demonstrating, but for scientific integrity you should be showing the amount of power (amps) coming from the panel and what was going to the motor.
You will not want to use a large 12 volt battery because of its weight.

Hydrogen fuel cell, much the same, you could take power directly from fuel cell to motor, or use it to charge a battery so that you can start more quickly. It would be possible but irrelevant to use hydrogen as a fuel source for an internal combustion engine.

Ethanol can be used in a gasoline engine. You would normally want to have a blend of ethanol and gasoline, but for purpose of demonstration you can use it pure.

  4. U have no chance. Stop and go back to school, try physics.
