Alternative fuel in cars question , Veg oil? , LPG? , Water?
I am interested in alternative fuel for cars to run a car to save money. I have converted my diesel C250 Mercedes to run on waste veg oil over a year ago and between collecting WVO from neighbours and from the local chipper I am successfully running my car with the 2 tank system, saving money and saving the world, ha ha.
I would like to know about converting a petrol car to LPG!
Q.1 Is it worth putting the LPG kit into a petrol car?
Q.2 What is the best car to convert?
Any information or views from anyone who has tried one of the above will be very much appreciated.
Links to information too , whatever you have people.
Also , if anyone out there with this experience thinks converting a petrol car to LPG or a petrol car to run on water is stupid and a load of bo**ox , please say so. Thanks in advance people!!!!!!!!!!1
You are looking at about $5000 or more to convert one properly…Prins Alternate fuel systems is probably one of the best ones available today…

They offer conversion kits for a wide range of vehicles. They’ve got a look up tool where you can see if they offer a kit for your car.
You would have to be driving one large pile of miles to save back that kind of conversion cost!
EDIT: I hate to tell you this Richard, but your wrong. Most of the propane we see at the consumer level comes from natural gas production…only a small portion comes from the refining of crude.
Also, natural gas vehicles have a much heavier storage tank than a propane conversion because you are storing a vapour under extremely high pressures instead of a liquid under relatively low pressure.
LPG is the way to go , We converted our car to LPG ,3 years ago for $2500 ( brand new system) , less $2000 government rebate , so actual cost to us was only $500. With LPG costing 40 cents a litre , compared with petrol at $1.20 a litre it payed for itself in a few months .Our car , a 3.8 litre V6 runs just as well on LPG and with about the same economy , but at a third of the price of petrol. Plus its easy to fill-up and every servo has LPG pumps these days . Any future cars we own will definatly run on LPG.
I can’t comment on the LPG, but I will say that converting a car to run on water is impossible. Water is so common on Earth because it is VERY inert. It takes more energy to break water apart than you gain from the chemical bonds. Water will NEVER be a fuel. Anyone who says otherwise is either stupid or trying to scam you out of money.
Here’s the math. 1 Gallon of gasoline contains 125,000 BTU. 1 million BTUs of Nat Gas now costs about $5.
converting to LPG isn’t hard, but understand that LPG stands for liquefied petroleum gas which means it comes from the same source as gasoline, and that is crude oil. a better choice would be CNG or compressed natural gas. either way you are going to need a "propane carburetor, a tank designed to handle high pressures, and the attendant fuel lines and pressure regulators. as for what cars are best to convert, most any gas powered car will do just fine, the bigger ones have more room for the tank and the attendant plumbing, but a small one will do just fine.
Lpg is a good conversion if you have room for the tank. LPG tanks are very bulky unless you use short trip fork lift tanks. The so called water/hydrogen systems give no more benefit or boost than driving in the fog would.
